The Ministry of Mobility and Public Works (MMTP) launches the Luxmobil 2025 mobility survey.
The Everyday Travel Survey!
This survey, following on from Luxmobil 2017, is essential to enable the Ministry to fulfill its mobility planning mission. In particular, it aims to collect key data on the travel behavior of Luxembourg residents and their mobility needs. This information will be essential for the development of the National Mobility Plan 2040, as well as for the Ministry’s future strategic planning.
As part of a broader context of cross-border cooperation, which includes northern Lorraine in France, Germany and Belgium, Luxembourg and the entire cross-border area will have up-to-date, comparable data on mobility behavior.
Participation in the survey
7,860 statistically representative residents will be contacted by telephone by ILRES, the polling company commissioned by the Ministry to collect the data.
The information collected concerns all the journeys made by the individuals on the day before the survey day during the week, or on the last Saturday before. Other data will also be collected, notably on the household (location, composition, etc.) and on individuals (personal profile, driving licence, public transport season tickets, etc.). This information will be processed in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
The participation of the people selected is essential, whatever their travel habits. This is a unique opportunity to ensure that their own experience is taken into account in the results of the survey, and in future decisions on mobility.
The survey consists of two parts: a first telephone interview concerns journeys made during the week. At the end of this interview, participants will be asked if they agree to be contacted again on the following Monday to answer a few questions about their Saturday journeys.
Technical support
In addition to ILRES, the Ministry of Mobility and Public Works, which is commissioning the survey, is being assisted by two other technical service providers throughout the survey:
CEREMA (Centre d’études et d’expertise sur les risques, l’environnement, la mobilité et l’aménagement) is monitoring the survey, ensuring that it runs smoothly in accordance with the methodological requirements.
LISER (Luxembourg Institute of Socio-Economic Research) is assisting the contracting authority in adapting the survey methodology to Luxembourg’s specific requirements and will ensure that it is fully implemented.
At the launch of the mobility survey, the Minister for Mobility and Public Works, Yuriko Backes, emphasised the importance of involving residents in the project: “This representative survey is being carried out in the interests of the public in order to gain a better understanding of their travel behaviour, adapt mobility solutions to their needs and improve the efficiency and comfort of their daily journeys.
By taking part, you are playing an active role in creating a mobility policy that is adapted to current and future challenges, reflecting the real needs of households. This is a unique opportunity to make your voice heard and influence strategic decisions on transport for the benefit of society as a whole.”
