The survey is conducted in all European Union countries and makes it possible to analyse changes in household income and living conditions over time, as well as to carry out comparisons at the European level. From May 15, 2026, a new edition of the SILC survey will be organised in Luxembourg.

Statec

STATEC is a public administration under the authority of the Ministry of the Economy. It carries out its mission with full scientific and professional independence in order to collect, analyse, and disseminate objective data on the Luxembourg economy and society.

Methodology

Since 2024, ILRES has been commissioned by STATEC to conduct face-to-face and telephone interviews with the new households selected this year, as well as with households that responded by telephone the previous year.

In 2026, 9,500 households will be randomly selected from the National Registry of Natural Persons (RNPP) to participate in this survey for four consecutive years.

Target audience

The survey is intended for households residing in Luxembourg, as well as for the individuals who make up those households.

Deadline

The questionnaire must be completed and submitted no later than September 15, 2026.

Objectives of the survey

The SILC survey aims to collect information relating to:

• household composition
• housing and related expenses
• material conditions
• employment and professional situation
• income
• well-being
• health
• participation in social life

The socio-economic data collected help provide a better understanding of the realities experienced by households and support the development, adaptation, and implementation of policies aimed at combating poverty, inequality, and social exclusion.

Mandatory participation

Selected individuals are required to participate in the survey once a year for four consecutive years. This long-term follow-up makes it possible to analyse more precisely the evolution of household living conditions in Luxembourg.
