Every day, RTL media reaches nearly 60% of Luxembourg residents.
Each day, close to 6 out of 10 people in Luxembourg are exposed to RTL media.
The TRAIL study (TV & Radio Audience In Luxembourg), conducted by ILRES for IP Luxembourg, is the benchmark audience measurement study in Luxembourg. It assesses media consumption such as television, radio, cinema, and digital platforms, through surveys and media diaries. The results provide key insights into audience figures and consumer behaviour, making TRAIL an essential tool for advertisers and media professionals.
The latest figures confirm the strong presence of the RTL brand in Luxembourg. By combining television, radio, and digital platforms, RTL reaches 59.5% of residents aged 16 and over every day, while its weekly reach rises to 79.9%.
IP Luxembourg: The RTL Group’s Advertising Sales House in Luxembourg
IP Luxembourg (often abbreviated as IPL) is a subsidiary of the RTL Group specialising in the commercialisation of advertising space in Luxembourg and the Greater Region. Founded in 1963, IPL markets advertising inventory across TV, radio, digital, and cinema media, while supporting advertisers with communication solutions and audience insights to optimise their campaigns.
Methodology
The TRAIL 2026-I study covers an analysis period from February 2025 to February 2026 and consists of two components:
- A “Day-After-Recall” component based on telephone interviews (CATI) and online surveys conducted through the ILRES panel. It measures media reach, audience accumulation, and audience profiles across media channels — including cinema and digital, as well as the devices used for listening to radio and watching TV content.
- An “eDIARY” component consisting of a listening and viewing diary in which participants record their radio and television consumption in detail every day over an 8-day period. This approach makes it possible to measure audiences in 15-minute intervals. It is a unique methodology in Luxembourg, inspired by international audience measurement studies.
Key Results
Radio
RTL Radio Lëtzebuerg is the most-listened-to radio station in the country, reaching 166,000 listeners every day and 278,300 per week, with an audience share of 49.1% among the 16+ population.
Eldoradio, the country’s second-largest station with 92,400 daily listeners and 192,700 weekly listeners, achieves its strongest audience figures among 16–34-year-olds, where it records a 34% audience share within this target group.
The German-language station RTL Radio 93,3 & 97,0 reaches 94,000 people living in Luxembourg every week.
TV
The TRAIL 2026-I study shows that live viewing still overwhelmingly dominates viewing habits in Luxembourg.
RTL Télé Lëtzebuerg remains the undisputed leader in the TV landscape. Its programs attract an average of 114,700 viewers every day and 224,300 viewers over the course of a week.
The second most-watched TV channel is TF1, notably thanks to strong performance among foreign residents: 58,900 foreign residents watch TF1 on a weekly basis.
Digital
RTL’s digital content available in three languages enables the group to reach a very broad audience: RTL.lu, RTL Infos, and RTL Today together achieve a daily reach of 42.0% and a weekly reach of 65.4% (370,600 people).
Cinema
Cinema benefits from strong audience accumulation over the weeks, reaching 134,700 residents aged 16+ after six weeks, with particularly strong performance among younger and international audiences.
Powerful Media at the Heart of Luxembourgers’ Daily Lives
Overall, the results of the TRAIL 2026 study highlight the strength and complementarity of Luxembourg’s audiovisual landscape. Radio and television continue to bring together a large share of the population every day, maintaining high levels of engagement. While live broadcasting remains dominant, digital usage complements traditional media and extends overall reach.
RTL Luxembourg confirms its central role by reaching a large majority of residents across its various platforms. Taken together, these results reflect a high-performing media ecosystem in which channels complement one another to maximise audience reach and impact.
